What is Deoraí?
Deoraí is a music and film project: contemporary and in the Irish language. The intention of the project is primarily to create original art using the Irish language. Cultural landscapes are
made up of many things, but art is central in this creation. Deoraí hopes to be part of the efforts underway to re-imagine the 'Gaeilge-sphere'.
However, Deoraí can't be defined as a 'language project'. We create art that draws from the counter-cultural and postmodernist artistic traditions. In our opinion, the current global culture and online culture are putting a veil on the human nature and 'the truth' and 'meaning' are often lost in endless marketing.
Because of this, the aim of this project is to tell real stories about what you see around you when you lift your head from your screen, and the ideas you have if you come out of the whirlwind for a moment.
Up until now, there has been a warm welcome from the national and international press. Songs and videos from the project have been covered in: The Irish Times, The Irish Independent, Irish Central, Nós mag, Hot Press and more. The songs have been and are still played on stations like RTÉ 2 fm, Raidió na Gaeltachta, BBC Radio Ulster, Raidió na Life, Raidió Rí Rá and KCLR FM.
Deoraí is a small project, but there is no plan to stop. Six pieces have been released thus far and there will be many more to come in the years ahead.
